Just as the flower power movement of the late 60s began to wilt, a glitter phenomenon known as glam rock rolled onto the scene. For the next decade, denim-clad hippies gave way to larger-than-life characters, like David Bowie, Alice Cooper, and the New York Dolls, who popularized a mix of avant-garde decadence, science fiction, and theatrical excess. Fast forward to today, and you'll notice that silhouettes were updated and the color palette was tweaked, but the spirit of 70s glam is still alive and well.

If you’re this close to packing up your bikini bottoms, hold it right there! The dog days of summer aren’t over yet. Have you seen the weather forecast this week? It’s not exactly sweater weather. This time of year calls for trans-seasonal pieces that will go the extra mile for you. Below, we’ve rounded up seven end-of-summer dresses you can wear during afternoons that are hot and nights that are, well, not.

Every seasonless wardrobe has one thing in common: lightweight fabrics that are perfect for layering. On warmer days, roll up the sleeves of our Safari dress and slip into a pair of minimalist slides. When the temperature drops, pair it with leather leggings and a blazer. You can thank us later!

Darkly romantic perennials were blooming on the fall runways of just about every major designer of note. Gucci served up gardens with a side of goth; Saint Laurent harkened back to 80s flower power; and Michael Kors gave us a little bit of everything. But the universal theme was clear: Bolder is better!

The 70s have long been described as “the decade that style forgot,” but designers are on a mission to change that mindset. For years, the sartorial hallmarks of the disco era have flooded the runways; bell-bottoms, shearling, suede, bohemian dresses — you name it, we’ve seen it. Of course, the silhouettes have been tweaked and the warm color palette anchored by burnt orange, mustard, and avocado has broadened its spectrum. But the feel-good essence of the free-wheeling decade remains. Now this is a version of the 70s we can get behind.

It wouldn’t be a 70s revival without peace, love and whole lot of patchwork. Pair this lightweight songbird jacket with a monochromatic jumpsuit and top it off with a wide-brimmed felt hat.

Did swim season sneak up on you? Let me give you the CliffNotes: It’s a fashion free-for-all. I’m talking polka dots, one-shoulder, ruffles, high-waisted, stripes, belted, you name it. But the one thing we can all agree upon is the one-piece swimsuit. This classic silhouette has been making a comeback for a few seasons now, and it’s officially here to stay. The best part of all? It flatters every shape and size. So long teeny bikini.

Red Cage Front One Piece Swimsuit
The iconic red one-piece swimsuit was popularized by Baywatch in the 90s and received a sleek overall for 2018. The cage-front detail adds a hint of skin without revealing too much.
